Q

Define commensals

A

Micro-organisms which are carried on the skin and mucosal surfaces. Are generally harmless and often beneficial. – can be harmful when they are transferred to other sites

Q

What are Koch’s Postulates?

A
  1. Microorganism should be found in all people suffering from the disease, but should not be found in healthy organisms2. Microorganism should be isolated from the diseased patient and grown in pure culture3. Cultured microorganism should causes disease when introduced into a healthy organism4. Microorganism should be re-isolated from the inoculated diseased patient and it should be identical to the original causative agent.
