deck 9 Flashcards
what were the renal vascular diseases
renal artery stenosis, nephrosclerosis, renal vein thrombosis, renal infarction
what is the treatment for renal infarction?
anticoagulation w/ thrombolytics and IV heparin
patients w/ nephrogenic systemic fibrosis need to avoid what?
Gadolinium from MR angiography, if eGFR <30mL/min
is renal vein thrombosis associated w/ nephrotic or nephritic?
nephrotic
what is described as an INSIDIOUS onset of flank pain?
renal vein thrombosis
what is nephrosclerosis?
kidney hardening due to overgrowth and contraction of interstitial tissue. Commonly a result of DM and HTN
what imaging is used for renal vein thrombosis?
renal venogram
what test gives the definitive diagnosis for renal artery stenosis, but is impractical?
renal angiography/arteriography
what appears w/ acute flank pain, n/fever, HTN or renal insufficiency, and a LDH (4X)?
renal infarction
what are the clues to diagnosing renal artery stenosis?
- 3+ antihypertensives
- HTN onset <20 or >50
- PE shows ubrupt BP surges
- Abrupt inc. serum creatinine after starting ACEI
- epigastric or renal artery bruits
- symptomatic lower limb atherosclerotic disease
what is the MC cause of renal artery stenosis?
atherosclerosis
what is associated w/ an extremely elevated LDH?
renal infarction
what drug is CI in renal artery stenosis?
ACEI
what is the treatment for renal artery stenosis?
TOBACCO CESSATION, BP and lipid management, angioplasty
what was associated w/ subacute infective endocarditis?
renal infarction
