deck 8 Flashcards
how to diagnose chronic tubulointerstitial disease?
renal biopsy
what were the causes for obstructive uropathy?
prostate, bilateral ureteral calculi, carcinoma, retroperitoneal tumors or fibrosis
what are the essentials of diagnosis for chronic tubulointerstitial disease?
small kidney, decreased concentrating ability, hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis, decreased GFR
what is seen on labs for analgesic nephropathy?
sloughed papillae, anemia, hyperkalemai, bilateral small kidneys w/ bumpy or irregular contours and papillary calcifications
what are the 4 main causes of tubulointerstitial disease?
OVAH obstruction vesicoureteral reflux analgesics heavy metals
what is the treatment for vesicoureteral reflux?
abx, urology for referral
what happens in analgesic nephropathy?
NSAIDs inhibit renal prostaglandin synthesis and block their vasodilatory effects. These leads to ischemia.
young males with recurrent UTIs need what test to diagnose what disorder?
need VCUG: voiding cystourethrogram to diagnose Vesicoureteral reflux
what is the MC cause of chronic tubulointerstitial disease?
obstructive uropathy
what heavy metals can lead to tubulointerstitial disease?
lead, cadmium, mercury, bismuth
