Visually observe and report all surface contacts, air contacts, any marine life and any man overboard. Also responsible for throwing life rings and smoke floats in man overboard situations and giving constant reports on the mans bearing and range from the ship.

Overall in charge of all enlisted watch standers on the bridge, assists the Officer of the Deck in maintaining good order and discipline, uses the Boatswain's pipe and passes the word over the 1MC.
