What does COA development do?
Generates options for later analysis and comparison that satisfy the commander’s intent and planning

What is area of interest?
An area of concern to the commander. Areas adjacent thereto and extending into enemy territory. Areas occupied by enemy forces who could jeporadize the mission (including enemy outside AO)
Larger than area of influence, may include staging area
What is area of influence?
A geographical area where a commander is directly capable of influencing with organic weapons systems

Define the OE
Describe the effects on the operation

What is the purpose of the MA brief?
Gain good enough situational understanding for the development of COAs
Develop common operations picture (COP)
Brings staff to the same level of understanding

MDMP is?
A planning method used to understand the situation and mission, develop a COA, and produce an OPORD
Facilitates collective planning
Drives preparation
