What is the purpose of mission analysis?
Gain situational understanding
Understand the problem
Understand the OE
Identify what needs to be accomplished
Identify the purpose of the operation
What are constraints?
Restrictions placed on a command by a higher command that dictate action or inaction, thus restricting the freedom of action of a subordinate commander
(ROE, boundaries, comms windows)
What is a specified task?
A task assigned to a unit by its higher hq
What is an implied task?
A task that must be performed to accomplish a specific task or mission but is not stated in higher hqs’ order

What is an essential task?
A specified or implied task that must be executed to accomplish the mission. They are always included in the units mission statement

When does risk managment begin during MDMP?
Mission Analysis
What is the commanders intent and what purpose does it serve?
A clear and concise statmemt of what the force must do and the conditions the force must meet to succeed with respect to the threat, terrain, and desired end stare
Purpose: provides the basis for subordinate initiative
So what of step 1 MDMP
Initates the planning process.
Provides the task, purpose, and framework for subsequent steps of the MDMP process.
Includes the first WARNO, allocates time, and assembles the staff and tools necessary for planning
