Define Deadly Force Triangle
Tool used only for deadly force situations regarding Individual Self Defense. All three sides of the triangle must be met to implement deadly force.
What are the three sides of the deadly force triangle?
Weapon, Subject’s Actions, and Opportunity
What are the two factors that must be met to constitute opportunity?
Unrestricted Access and Maximum Effective Range
When must an officer stop using deadly force?
When threat of death or serious injury is no longer imminent/One side of the triangle no longer applies.
Define Weapon.
Any physical means to cause harm.
Define Harm.
To cause death or serious physical injury.
Define Opportunity.
A situation or condition favorable for the attainment of a goal.
Define Subjects Actions.
They physical actions that would lead a reasonable law enforcement officer to believe that death or physical serious harm is imminent.
