Day 8 - Plant Tissues Flashcards
It is a branch of science that deals with plants
Botany
It is the science that deals with tissues? and who are the people who studies it?
Histology and histologist
What are the types of plant tissue?
Protective Meristematic Mechanical Conducting Specialized
It covers the surface of the leaves and living cells of the roots and stems
Protective Tissue
It is the protective covering that secrets cuticle that helps retain water
Epidermis
It undergoes secondary growth. It has cork cells and rotects plants from pathogens. It also prevents excessive water loss and provides insulation
Periderm
It is where the cells are constantly dividing or producing new cells
Meristematic
Differentiate all 5 plant tissues.
Protective Tissue is for Protection and covering
Meristematic is for producing new cell
Mechanical or Ground is for supporting and providing storage
Conducting is for conducting saps of water and other minerals
Specialized cells have different structure and function
Mechanical or ground tissue is abundant of? Describe.
Parenchyma
it is sphere shaped and it divides if they are mature or not. Basically to repair damage tissues and it is also used for food and water storage. It has no chloroplast
In the opposite of Parenchyma, this has chloroplast
Chlorenchyma
This ground tissue has loosely packed together with connected air spaces
Aerenchyma (air)
This ground tissue is found beneath the epidermis. Its walls are pliable.
Collenchyma
This ground tissue has thick and tough secondary walls that has embedded lignin and it is for structure and support
Sclerenchyma
This type of ground tissue is randomly distributed and it is gritty because of its stone cells. Its fiber is longer and wider with very fine cavity
Sclereids
This type of tissue has xylem and phloem
