Day 10 - Mitosis Flashcards
This is the study of cells
Cytology
It is the process that increases in size and quantity of cells
Cell Division
It is the stages of a cell’s life. From single parent cells to 2 daughter cells
Cell cycle
Explain the process of Mitosis
The DNA replicates, the centrioles divides and proteins synthesizes (INTERPHASE)
The nuclear envelope disintegrates and mitotic spindle forms (PROPHASE)
Chromosomes are aligned in 1 straight line (METAPHASE)
Centromeres divide and move towards opposite poles (ANAPHASE)
Chromosomes reach its spindle forms and the nuclear envelope appears (TELOPHASE)
This the process where cells quit dividing. It is also called as the temporary resting stage
GAP 0
It is the restriction point where the cell size increase, produces RNA and synthesizes protein
GAP 1 Phase
It is the phase that produces 2 daughter cells and the DNA is replicated
Synthesis Phase or S phase
This is te gap between DNA synthesis and mitosis. It grows and produces protein
GAP 2
It is the division of cytoplasm and it forms cleavage furrow in animals and forms cell plate in plants
Cytokenesis
