Day 5 - Flight Management/Guidance Flashcards
How can you interface with the FMGC?
FCU, Thrust Levers, MCDU
How many FMGS modes are there?
4 modes
What does Dual Mode mean?
Normal mode
The 2 FMGCs are synchronised. Each performs its own computations and exchanges data through a crosstalk bus
Which FMGC is the master and which is the slave when AP1 is engaged?
One FMGC is the master and the other is the slave. If one AP 1 is engaged, the respective FMGC (FMGC 1) is the master.
The opposite is also true
In dual mode, if both APs are engaged, which FMGC is master?
FMGC 1 is master
In dual mode, if no AP/FD is engaged, then which FMGC controls the A/THR?
FMGC 1
What is FMGC independent mode?
Both FMGCs work independently and are linked only to their “onside” peripherals
If the FMGC is in independent mode, how would you know?
“Independent mode” message displayed on both MCDU scratchpads
What is FMGC single mode?
Only 1 FMGC working due to failure.
In FMGC single mode, are both MCDUs mirrored or operate independently?
Both MCDUs display information from the operational (working) FMGC.
Inputs can be made on either MCDU
In single mode, what message will appear on the ND 2 if FMGC 2 has failed and the ‘EFIS CP not in the same mode/range”
‘MAP NOT AVAIL’ in red
SET OFFSIDE FM CONTROL in Amber
In single mode, what message will appear on the ND 2 if FMGC 2 has failed and the ‘EFIS CP is in the same mode/range”?
‘OFFSIDE FM CONTROL’
Does the back up NAV mode auto select on the FMGC?
No. Flight crew select this mode when both FMGCs fail from the MCDU menu
What are the 4 FMGC mode?
Dual
Independent
Single
Back up
When actual NAV accuracy drops below required NAV accuracy, what messages appear and where?
An amber warning “NAV ACCUR DOWNGRAD” will appear on both the ND and MCDU scratch pad
When actual NAV accuracy increases above required NAV accuracy from below, what messages appear and where?
A White advisory message, “NAV ACCUR UPGRAD” and is displayed on both the ND and MCDU scratch pad
In the FMGC, what does Amber, Green and blue mean?
Amber - Required for normal operation
Green - Can’t be changed
Blue - Can be changed
How many phases of flight does the MCDU have?
8 phases
