Day 5 - Flight Management/Guidance Flashcards
How can you interface with the FMGC?
FCU, Thrust Levers, MCDU
How many FMGS modes are there?
4 modes
What does Dual Mode mean?
Normal mode
The 2 FMGCs are synchronised. Each performs its own computations and exchanges data through a crosstalk bus
Which FMGC is the master and which is the slave when AP1 is engaged?
One FMGC is the master and the other is the slave. If one AP 1 is engaged, the respective FMGC (FMGC 1) is the master.
The opposite is also true
In dual mode, if both APs are engaged, which FMGC is master?
FMGC 1 is master
In dual mode, if no AP/FD is engaged, then which FMGC controls the A/THR?
FMGC 1
What is FMGC independent mode?
Both FMGCs work independently and are linked only to their “onside” peripherals
If the FMGC is in independent mode, how would you know?
“Independent mode” message displayed on both MCDU scratchpads
What is FMGC single mode?
Only 1 FMGC working due to failure.
In FMGC single mode, are both MCDUs mirrored or operate independently?
Both MCDUs display information from the operational (working) FMGC.
Inputs can be made on either MCDU
In single mode, what message will appear on the ND 2 if FMGC 2 has failed and the ‘EFIS CP not in the same mode/range”
‘MAP NOT AVAIL’ in red
SET OFFSIDE FM CONTROL in Amber
In single mode, what message will appear on the ND 2 if FMGC 2 has failed and the ‘EFIS CP is in the same mode/range”?
‘OFFSIDE FM CONTROL’
Does the back up NAV mode auto select on the FMGC?
No. Flight crew select this mode when both FMGCs fail from the MCDU menu
What are the 4 FMGC mode?
Dual
Independent
Single
Back up
When actual NAV accuracy drops below required NAV accuracy, what messages appear and where?
An amber warning “NAV ACCUR DOWNGRAD” will appear on both the ND and MCDU scratch pad
When actual NAV accuracy increases above required NAV accuracy from below, what messages appear and where?
A White advisory message, “NAV ACCUR UPGRAD” and is displayed on both the ND and MCDU scratch pad
In the FMGC, what does Amber, Green and blue mean?
Amber - Required for normal operation
Green - Can’t be changed
Blue - Can be changed
How many phases of flight does the MCDU have?
8 phases
What does a megenta circle mean around a way point?
Managed by FMGS and the ALT CSTR is predicted to be met
What does a white circle around a waypoint mean?
When the ALT CSTR is not taken into account by the FMGS and the NAV mode is engaged
Amber circle around a waypoint?
When the ALT CSTR is predicted to be missed
What does a blue or white zig zag arrow mean?
Intercept point - where the aircraft is predicted to intercept the descent path (if there is any vertical deviation when the aircraft is in DES mode)
If you’re off track, where do the predictions displayed on the MCDU come from?
MCDU predictions are based on assumptions that you’re going to intercept the flight plan at 45 degrees or direct to the next waypoint if the angle is beyond 45 degrees
There’s 2 parts to the FMGC. Part 1 is flight management controlling predictions, display management, flight planning management and NAV/radio navigation management, but part 2 is what?
Flight guidance. Controlling auto pilot, auto thrust and flight directors
The FCU is used for ……… term corrections
The FMGS is used for …….. term flight path management
Short term correction.
Long term flight path management
If you level off before the target altitude, the MCDU will stay in what phase ?
Climb phase
Does the auto pilot disconnect when below VLS in climb or open climb?
Yes
Will auto thrust stay connected if you exceed 25 dgeees nose up?
Yes. Even though auto pilot disconnects
If the FD is not engaged, but we engage the AP, what mode engages?
AP basic mode. Which is HDG/TRK and V/S/FPA
When can you engage both APs?
Only if one of the following conditions is met;
LOC is armed
G/S is armed
Go-around engaged
But AP1 is always the active and AP2 is SBY always
SRS in the climb with 2 engines targets what speed?
V2 + 10 kts
SRS on the ground targets what speed?
V2
In climb/descent mode on the FMA, what controls speed?
Pitch
If you descend before TOD, what ROD do you get?
1000 ft/min until it intercepts the DPO (descent profile optimisation)
Min height to engage the auto pilot inflight?
100ft or 5 secs after takeoff
Manual go around auto pilot engagement min alt?
100ft AGL
ILS CAT 1 lowest alt with AP engaged?
160ft
GLA approach when auto land displayed, what is the minimum altitude for AP engaged ?
0 ft
ILS CAT 3 minimum alt with AP engaged.
0ft
What are the 2 A/THR modes?
Speed mode and Mach mode
With the AP engaged, if you turn off the FD, what mode is the AP now in?
Basic mode
What does an amber message on the MCDU me an?
Warning
White message on the MCDU?
Advisory
On the FMGC, are Amber messages prioritised?
Yes
What does the FMA 1FD1 mean?
Both FDs on both PFD using FD 1 data
