SUJECTO indefinido needs a que AND the SUBJ. like I need any kind of framework it is indefinite but definite subjects use indicative

which one of these is the best word to use? requires or causes is probably the best
He asked me to bring him water.
Me pidió que le trajera el agua.
pedir is a request (or command) so use subjunctive
but why imp subj because to bring him water is present tense?
so a past tense requires a past tense even tho it sounds like the present in English
