Commensalism
A relationship between two organisms of different species where one benefits and the other is neither harmed or nor benefited
Community
(Ecology) A group of interdependent organisms inhabiting the same region and interacting with each other
Competition
A common demand by two or more organisms upon a limited supply of a resource. for example food, water, light, space, mates and nesting sites. It may be intraspecific or interspecific. negative for both involved.
Competitive exclusion principle
Ecological rule that states that no two species can occupy the same exact niche in the same habitat at the same time
Crustacean
Pertaining to a division of anthropods, containing lobsters crabs and crawfish etc.
Deuterostome
An animal whose anus is formed from the blastopore, and the mouth is form from a second opening that develops
Dipnoi: lungfish
Have jaws, have fins supported with skeletons and muscles, lungfish, have both gills and lungs, ancestor to tetrapods.
Dominant species
Are those that are most abundant or have the most biomass
Ecdysozoans
Member of a group of animal phyla identified as a clade by molecular evidence. Many ecdyozoans are molting animals.
Echinodermata
Radially symmetrical marine invertebrates including starfish sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Secondary symmetry, water vascular system
Ecosystem
A system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their physical environment
Energy flow
The flow of energy from an ecosystem to an organism and from one organism to another
Eutherians
Placental mammal, mammal who’s young complete their embryonic development within the uterus, joined to the mother by the placenta
