Day 1: EA Flashcards
A disturbance that affects an electrical circuit due to either electromagnetic induction or electromagnetic radiation emitted from an external source
Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)
Involves the use of the electromagnetic spectrum (EM spectrum) to attack enemy target systems
Electromagnetic Attack (EA)
Examples of EA
- Jamming communication signals or radar systems
- Spoofing
False information is fed to the enemy’s systems
Spoofing
Phenomenon that occurs when two or more waves combine to form a resultant wave
Interference
Enhance the strength of a signal
Constructive Interference (in phase)
Can also increase the strength of friendly signals
Constructive Interference (in phase)
Reduce the fidelity of enemy signals
Destructive Interference (out of phase)
Support offensive military operations
Offensive EA
Protect friendly forces from adversary attacks
Defensive EA
Aim is to disrupt or deny the usage of a communication link or a detection system
Jamming
What are the two categories of jamming?
- Active
- Passive
Emitting signals to interfere with a target’s operation
Active Jamming
Techniques such as chaff or decoys to confuse the enemy’s systems
Passive Jamming
False information is introduced into the enemy’s systems, causing them to react to an incorrect situation
Spoofing
