DASH ONE: SECTION 3 (EP) Flashcards
ENGINE AIRSTART, PROP ROTATING
1. MIXTURE - CUT OFF
2. THROTTLE - FULL FORWARD after 3 - 5 seconds pull back to 1/4 open.
3. MIXTURE - RICH
ENGINE FIRE IN FLIGHT
A. FIRE CONFIRMED
1. CABIN HEAT & VENT - OFF
2. FUEL SELECTOR - OFF
3. THROTTLE - FULL FORWARD
4. MAGNETOS - OFF
5. EXECUTE BAIL-OUT FORCED LANDING OR DITCHING - AS APPLICABLE
WARNING
Do not attempt to restart.
B. Fire not confirmed
- Land - As soon as practical
SMOKE OR FUMES IN COCKPIT OR POSITIVE CO INDICATION
1. CABIN HEAT & VENT - OFF
2. FRESH AIR SCOOPS - OPEN
3. LAND - AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Continue Engine Fire In Flight or Electrical Fire as applicable.
ENGINE FIRE ON GROUND
1. FUEL SELECTOR - OFF
2. THROTTLE - FULL FORWARD
3. ENGINE - CRANK (if not running)
4. BATTERY - OFF
5. EPU - OFF
6. MAGNETOS - OFF
7. GROUND EGRESS - EXECUTE
NOTE
Use aircraft fire extinguisher, if deemed effective.
FORCED LANDING
1. AIRSPEED - 80 KIAS
2. LANDING AREA - SELECT
3. IFF/SIF - EMERGENCY
4. SEAT BELT - TIGHT & LOCKED
5. RADIO - MAYDAY CALL
6. FUEL SELECTOR - OFF
7. THROTTLE - FULL FORWARD
8. MAGNETOS - OFF
Adjust bank and key positions throughout the pattern to compensate for wind, using a maximum of 45º bank.
CAUTION
Aim to join the forced landing pattern on one of the key positions, taking the prevailing wind into consideration.
NOTE
For max. glide distance (1.5 nm / 1000’) maintain 80 kts.
TRIM MALFUNCTION
If experiencing runaway trim or any other trim malfunction:
- Pitch trim C/B - Pull
- Trim - Use manual trim wheel
- Land - As soon as practical
OIL SYSTEM FAILURE
Oil pressure warning light illuminates and/or low oil pressure indication.
1. RPM & POWER - LOWEST PRACTICAL
- LAND - As soon as possible (or practical if oil press is above 25 psi)
NOTE
- Reduction of power and minimizing G forces will generally prolong the engine operating time, prior to complete engine failure.*
- In case of total oil pressure loss the propeller blades move into coarse pitch (low RPM), and thereby reduce available power.*
ABORTED TAKE-OFF
Major reasons for ABORTED TAKE-OFF:
Complete or partial loss of power. Fire or overheat indication. Tire failure. Fuel flow zero. Other abnormal readings or functions such as low manifold pressure, low RPM, rough engine operation etc. misjudgment of available take-off distance.
1. THROTTLE - IDLE
2. BRAKES - AS REQUIRED
If necessary
- Mixture - cut off
- Switches - off
- Fuel selector - off
NOTE
With obstacles ahead and insufficient braking action, ground loop aircraft.
PRESSURE INSTRUMENT MALFUNCTION
Pressure instruments malfunction:
- Alt Static Air - On
STRUCTURAL DAMAGE
If structural damage occurs in flight (over-G, over-speed, bird strike etc.) proceed as follows:
- Configuration - Do not change
- Land - As soon as practical
NOTE
Fly a power-on, straight-in approach requiring minimum flare.
ENGINE AIRSTART, PROP STOPPED
1. MIXTURE - CUT OFF
2. THROTTLE - OPEN 1/4
3. RIGHT MAGNETO - OFF
4. START BUTTON - PRESS UNTIL ENGINE FIRES
5. MIXTURE - RICH WHEN ENGINE FIRES
6. RIGHT MAGNETO - ON
ELECTRICAL FIRE
1. GENERATOR - OFF
2. BATTERY - OFF
- Land - As soon as possible
If fire and/or smoke continues
- EPU battery - Off
If necessary for continued flight
- Unnecessary equipment - Off
- Battery - On
NOTE
The electrical EMERGENCY POWER UNIT (EPU) will supply sufficient power to the ST-BY ATTITUDE INDICATOR, the VHF-2 COM radio and the MAP LIGHTS for approximately 2 hours.
NOTE
If equipment on the secondary bus is necessary for completion of flight the generator must be switched on.
CANOPY UNLOCKED DURING FLIGHT
Canopy warning light illuminates, the canopy audio signal sounds, or it is obvious the canopy is not proper locked during flight.
- Airspeed - 80 KIAS
- Land - As soon as possible
CAUTION
Do not touch the canopy lock handle until landing roll is complete.
NOTE
Avoid abrupt pitch changes and fly a straight-in approach.
GROUND EGRESS
1. PERSONAL EQUIPMENT - DISCONNECT
2. BRAKES - RELEASE
3. CANOPY/DOOR - OPEN
4. AIRCRAFT - ABANDON
NOTE
If fire, obstructed canopy or overturned a/c make normal escape from the front seats impossible, either fold backrest and leave through rear door or use canopy breaker in order to escape through the canopy.
ENGINE FAILURE DURING TAKE-OFF
A. DURING TAKE-OFF - ABORT
B. DURING INITIAL CLIMB
1) NOSE - LOWER
2) FLAPS - AS DESIRED
3) LAND - AHEAD
WARNING
Never try to turn back to the runway.
NOTE
- Slight course deviation in order to avoid obstacles are allowable, airspeed permitting.*
- If time permits, continue* FORCED LANDING .
