A

The Romans were unhappy with Pope Leo, tried to kill him, so he fled and found refuge with Charlemagne. He is anointed king in exchange, sooooo people believe that God wanted that to happen. EUROPEANS WERE THEN UNIFIED.

A

Charlemagne gives the country to his son (Louis the Pious), who gives it to his grandsons. They (Charles the Bald–> France, Louis the German–> Germany, and Lothair–> eastern part of Holy Roman Empire) then fight for control of the empire. It divided into three sections.
