A

They gave rise to the first universities and wrote stuff, which eventually got spread around and people learned to read. Basically, they strengthened knowledge and education.

Kings often donated land to church, wanted a say. The king’s and nobles appoint church officials, which upset the popes and led to actions by the church.

What was the concordat of worms?

A

A compromise between the church and emperor; a meeting of ecclesiastical and secular officials. Church officials and the emperor’s representatives met in German city of Worms, where they made a compromise. The compromise was that ONLY the church could appoint a bishop, but the emperor could veto it.
