Dagna Flashcards
KYPHOSCOLIOSIS
when the spine isn’t vertically straight and leans forward
TACTILE FREMITUS
If there is a reduced or increased transmission of sound
PLEURA EFFUSION
Water in the lungs
PERCUSSION
Evaluation of the “density” of the underlying tissue
air filled, fluid filled, solid
WHEEZES
Sound of the lungs when there is an obstruction
RHONCHI
Sound of breathing if there is mucus
STRIDOR

CONTINUOUS FEVER
Fever pattern characterized by small variations (<1 C)
LYSIS
CRISIS
In continuos fever.
Lysis: slow variations
Crisis: fast variations
REMITTING FEVER
Fever pattern characterized by variations greater than 1 degree
INTERMITTENT FEVER

( Malaria: fever every 4 days)
UNDULATING FEVER

Fever pattern where it has fever spikes followed by long periods of normal temperature
ABDOMINAL QUADRANTS
LUQ
RUQ
LLQ
RLQ
9 ABDOMEN SECTORS
MIDDLE: Epigastrium, Megagastrium, Hypogastrium
- Right and left Hypocondrium
- Right and left Lumbar
- Right and left Iliac
HEARTBURN
Inflammation of the esophagus due to stomach acidity ( reflux)

When:
- hollow organs forcefully contract or become distended
- solid organs swell agains their capsules
PARIETAL PAIN
Inflammation from the hollow or solid organs that affect the parietal peritoneum
REFERRED PAIN
Originates at different sites but shares innervation from the same spinal level
( gallbladder= pain in the shoulder)
STEPS OF AN EXAMINATION
- Inspection
- Auscultation ( beginning for the abdomen, at the end for the chest)
- Palpation
- Percussion
SCAPHOID ABDOMEN
The abdomen is at a lower level than the chest when the patient is lying down due to extreme low bodyweight
STRIAE RUBRAE
Red Stripes on the skin, associated to increased production of cortisol
WHEALS
Giant urticarial that manifests due to allergic reactions
ECCHYMOSIS
Small amount of blood in the tissue
ex. due to heparin injections
4 BOWEL SOUNDS
- Normal
- Reduced
- Increased (ex. just finished to eat)
- Metallic ( heard usually before an occlusion)
ABDOMINAL PERCUSSIONS 3 TYPES OF SOUND
- Dulness ( presence of water or mass)
- Normal tympany
- Increased tympany
TYMPANY
Sound of the bowel of there is air
HPI
History of present illness
AMBROSIA
Plant that creates lots of allergies
EDEMA
Accumulation of water
