D2.1 Mitosis Flashcards
Name the phases of mitosis in order
- prophase
- metaphase
- anaphase
- telophase
What is interphase?
it’s a stage before the mitosis (but not mitosis), when there is chromatin present only
What happens in prophase? (3 things)
chromatin condensed into chromosomes, membrane if the nucleus breaks down, the spindle forms
What are microtubule organising centres (MTOCs)?
those are structures that organize the spindle fibres
What MTOCs does animal cells use?
centrosomes, that contain centrioles
What happens in metaphase? (2 things)
microtubules attach to centromeres, chromosomes are lined in the middle (centre)
What happens in anaphase?
spindle fibres shorten, the centromere splits and pulls sister chromatids apart
What happens in telophase? (3 things)
new nucleus membrane is formed, chromosomes decondense to chromatin, cytokinesis
