C1.2 Krebs cycle Flashcards
What happens in first stage of Krebs cycle?
acetyl-CoA produced in link reaction will attach to oxaloacetate
What happens after acetyl-CoA attaches to oxaloacetate (KB)?
CoA comes off forming just 6 carbon molecule (2 from acetyl-CoA and 4 from oxaloacetate)
What happens to 6 carbon molecule (KB)?
is decarboxylated forming 5C + CO2, NAD —> NADH
What happens after first oxidation and decarboxylation (KB)?
another decarboxylation and oxidation forming 4 carbon molecule
How Krebs cycle closes?
after producing 4 carbon: NAD and FAD are reduced, ATP is formed from ATP goes back to oxaloacetate
What are the final products of 1 Krebs cycle?
2 x CO2, ATP, FADH, 3 x NADH
How many times cycle repeats per glucose molecule?
twice, because one glucose forms two pyruvates, which forms 2 CoA to use in one Krebs cycle
