A

-> based on type and conformation: Wolf, molosser & greyhound types.

-> size (height at withers):
- Large > 62 cm
- Medium 42-62 cm
- Small 25-41 cm
- Dwarf/miniature < 25 cm

-> coat characteristics:
◦ Smooth
◦ Rough
◦ Curly
◦ Wirehaired
◦ Long haired

-> abnormalities / breed character:
◦ Tail-torsion: bulldog, pug bobtail.
◦ Chondrodysplasia: Basset hound, Dachshund, Welsh Corgi.
◦ Alopecia: Mexican hairless, Chinese crested dog.
◦ Brachycephaly: Pug, Mastiff, Boxer, Bulldog.
◦ Dwarfism: Chihuahua, Yorkshire Terrier.
◦ Polydactyly: Briard dogs.

What is the FCI?

A

FCI- Federation Cynologique Internationale (In English: World Canine Organization).

  • International federation of a number of national kennel clubs; Breed standards organization based in Thuin, Belgium.
  • Groups dogs into 10 categories based on country of origin, breed formation, characteristics, etc.
