Cystic Fibrosis- Treatment Flashcards
Dornase Alfa
Break down extracellular DNA in the lungs. Pulmonary secretions extracellular DNA released by degenerating leukocytes. Hydrolyses DNA in sputum of CF patients and reduce viscosity + viscoelasticity. Enzyme does not appear to effect sputum in absence of inflammatory response to infection or effect healthy individuals
Bronchodilators
Open or widen airways, specifically bronchi/ bronchioles. Make breathing easier- air in mucus out. 20 minutes to work, lasts 4-6 hours.
Beta-Agonists
Albuterol
Levabuterol
Physiotherapy
Antigenic Drainage
Positive Expiratory Pressure
Active cycle of breathing techniques: cycle of deep breathing, huffing, coughing and relaxed breathing to move mucus
Moves mucus from smaller to bigger airways using controlled breathing at different levels
Breathing out through a mask or mouthpiece against a resistance to build up pressure to move mucus
Antibiotics
Limiting growth bacteria of bacteria cells by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis, DNA replication, or other aspect of bacteria cellular metabolism
