mutation of CF gene encodes a protein
causes disruption of chloride channel
affects lungs, pancreas, liver, intestines, sex organs
affects secretory glands
repeated lung infections due to thickening secretions
impeding antimicrobial function and cause mucus to thicken
puberty causes obstructive airways

Signs and symptoms
A
breathing difficulties- gets progressively worse productive cough sinus infection clubbing of fingers and toes wheezing salty skin big appetite- poor weight gain poor growth bulky smelly, bowel movements

what is it?
A
inherited condition that causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and in the digestive system
causing both lung problems and problems digesting food
