Why was regenerated needed, whats the history?

A

It was the largest producer of Steel in the 19C 90% global= the River Don was polluted with iron oxide.
1950/60S the river had 2m foam detergant from cotton= the river had little biodiversity+high pollution:acid, tar, toxic heavy metals, sewage

Overall conclusion?

A

ME successful- mostly done through volunteers=need maintenance -has made it a place to go nice waterfront.
-introduced otters = clean water now, up biodiversity.
