Why was regenerated needed, whats the history?
A
It was the largest producer of Steel in the 19C 90% global= the River Don was polluted with iron oxide.
1950/60S the river had 2m foam detergant from cotton= the river had little biodiversity+high pollution:acid, tar, toxic heavy metals, sewage

A
- Rejuvenating 13km of waterfront-clean
- Encouraging biodiversity by restoring natural ecosystems
- Clearing non-native species ie Japanese knot-weed
- Engaging local communities through volunteering and recreation

A
- Flooding in 2007 resulting in 2 dead and £millions in damage
- Part of the blue loop scheme is to reduce flooding
- Increase wetland areas and vegetation- now otters
- Sustainable living, green roofs, improve appearance of buildings

Overall conclusion?
A
ME successful- mostly done through volunteers=need maintenance -has made it a place to go nice waterfront.
-introduced otters = clean water now, up biodiversity.
