Cross Country Flight Planning Flashcards
What information are pilots required to review before each flight?
Each PIC shall become familiar with all available information concerning that flight. FAR 91.103
What is NWKRAFT?
Notams Weather Known ATC delays Runway lengths available Alternatives to the flight Fuel Requirements Take off and landing distances.
How do you determine the route and altitude for a Cross country flight?
FOOPAAA
Fuel reqs, obstacles, oxygen, preferred routes, aircraft performance, airspace, altitudes, IMSAFE, PAVE, pilot docs, personal minimums, ARROWPECM, AV1ATE, ATOMATOFLAMES, FLAPS, GRABCARDD, NWKRAFT
Where are the performance charts found?
Section 5 of the POH
Define KIAS
Indicated Airspeed: the direct instrument reading, uncorrected for instrument or system error.
Define KCAS
Calibrated airspeed: speed at which the aircraft is moving through the air, correcting IAS for installation and instrument error
Define KTAS
True Airspeed: CAS corrected for nonstandard temperature and pressure
How do you convert between the KIAS and KTAS?
Use the chart in the POH to convert IAS to CAS, then use E6B to convert CAS to TAS.
What are VFR Fuel Requirements?
Day: fly to first point of intended landing and then 30 minutes after at normal cruise.
Night: fly to first point of intended landing and then 45 minutes after at normal cruise.
What are IFR Fuel Requirements?
Fly to first airport of intended landing, fly from that airport to the alternate airport and then fly for 45 minutes at normal cruise.
What is the Pressure Altitude Formula?
[(29.92- current altimeter)x 1000] + field elevation.
What is the Density Altitude Formula?
[120 x (OAT-ISA temp)] + Pressure Altitude
or
use E6B
Why does groundspeed increase as density altitude increases?
Ask Nate for further clarification and then update this card.
