How do you know if you can fly with inop equipment if you don’t have an MEL?
Follow FAR 91.213. It goes Equipment list in the back of the POH> Kinds of Operations section 9 POH>TCDS Equipment section> ADs> 91.205.
How do you obtain an MEL?
You must obtain the Master MEL then tailor it as desired to your needs without being more restrictive than the Master MEL, them submit it to the FSDO and they will approve it and send it back to you with a LOA and preamble and procedures which all need to be in the aircraft.
How do you interpret a MEL?
Time Frames: A: as noted, B: 3 days, C: 10 days, D: 120 days.
Procedures: O means that the operator may follow procedures to fix it, and M means maintenance must follow procedures to fix it.
What is Preventative Maintenance?
cannot be complex, can be accomplished by a Private pilot, must conduct a self analysis, must log the work.
Some examples are; replacing landing gear tires, replacing bulbs, replenishing hydraulic fluid, fashioning seat patches.
What are some Placards and limitations of the Piper Seminole?
Maneuvering speed, AVGAS only sign on nacelle, Baggage max 200lbs, Emergency Exit, Storm window, no smoking
What inspections are required for airworthiness?
AV1ATE
Annual (12 months), VOR (30 days/IFR), 100 Hour (for hire), Altimeter and Static Encoder (24 months/IFR), Transponder (24 months), ELT (12 months/ Battery used 1 hour cumulative or half life).
What documents are required for airworthiness?
ARROWPECM
Airworthiness Certificate, Registration Certificate, Radio Operators License, Operation Limitations, Weight and Balance POH, Placard and Limitations, External Data Plate, Compass Deviation Card, MEL if you have one.
How long is an Airworthiness Certificate Valid?
It is valid as long as the aircraft maintains an airworthy state.
How long is a Registration Certificate valid for?
Every three years.
Exceptions: canceled by written request, aircraft totally destroyed or scrapped, ownership transferred, owner loses US citizenship.
What are Airworthiness Directives?
correct an unsafe condition in an aircraft, engine, propeller or appliance when they are likely to exist in other models as well.
Two types: Emergency and Less Urgent. Within that there is recurring and one time.

Who can sign off on an Annual Inspection?
An A&P with an inspector’s authorization.
What is a Form 337?
It is a form that is sent to the FAA whenever there is a Major alteration or repair made. Part 43 appendix A defines those terms. We look for two signatures and an approved box checked.
What is a supplemental type certificate (STC)?
its a type certificate issued when the FAA has approved a modification from the original design.
What is a special flight permit?
Its a permit that may be issued to an aircraft that is not Airworthy but is capable for safe flight.
