Social Exclusion and Crime
For many groups in Canada, the crime and victimization that they are involved in, and experience are often the result of their marginalization and exclusion.
Hate Crime
Targeted groups usually socially excluded groups which can be related to
- Religion
- “Race” and/or Ethnicity
- Gender and/or Sexual orientation
Violence Against Women
*Related to patriarchy, social and economic exclusion
*Includes: murder, physical assault, sexual assault, destruction of property and humiliation
Hagan & McCarthy (1997) study results on street youth
street youth were much more likely to be involved in illegal activities such as serious theft, drug use, theft of food, and prostitution compared to youth who participated in school-based surveys.
Factors that might effect why there are homeless youth
1.troubled backgrounds
2.their current living conditions (ex. no job, not in school)
3. Drug problem
