Left realists, increasingly materialistic culture promoted by global media says success = consumption
Marketisation promotes individualism which undermines social cohesion
Elite groups: movement of funds around globe to avoid tax, migrant workers can be illegally employed for less than minimum wage

Organisation is opportunistic entrepreneurial individual with contacts
Contrasts with rigid ‘mafia’ style in the past
Crime is ‘glocal’, still locally based but with global connections e.g. drugs

A

Organisations in Russia and East Europe post communism ‘mcmafia’
After communisms fall most sectors were deregulated except for natural resources like oil
Old KGB generals bought up these sectors for almost nothing and sold these abroad, becoming the new capitalist class
They then turned to ex-convict/mafia to protect their wealth, and were purely economic, not traditional
