The sacred book of Christianity containing the Old Tesitment and New Testiments
What is the testament
Tesitment is an agreement or promise. In the bible you have and New and Old agreement/promise.
Old testiment
It deals with the ways God relates to the Jewish people. It contains: the Torah, history books, wisdom books, prophets
New testiment
It is based on the life and teaching on Jesus and the apostles. It contains the: gosples, acts of the apostles, epistles, book of revelation
The history books
These show how God guided his people and how the people often refused to listen. These stories were included to help later generations avoid the same mistakes.
The wisdom books
Includes prayers, psalms, books of advice and poems. It shows people how to use their God given talents and to be able to stay close.
The prophets
Containing rhe words of inspired figures who were sent by God to teach people about how God is active in the world and challange people to stay faithful
The law (torah)
The first five books, which show how Jews became the people of God. It includes guidance for how he wanted them to live (10 commandments).
The gosples
The gospels record the actions and teachings of Jesus. They inlcude Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
Acts of the apostles
They tell some of the events in the early Church up to about 60CE. They include the continuatiin of the Gospel of Luke
Epostles (letters)
Show Christians how to live by Jesus’ teachings and what it means to be a Christian
Book of revelation
An apoclypric book written by John, featuring his own mystical vision, which some Christians believe describe the end of the world
Inspiration
The guidance that God gives to people (bible writers)
Magisterium
The teaching authority of the Catholic Chirch, expercised by the Pope and the bishops.
Myth
A story that intends to convey a deep truth or message, but not in a literal way
Sacred scripture
The holy writings of a religion that are belived to be inspired by God
Fundamentalist
Someone who belives the Bible is a factual record that describes events exactly as they happened; fundamentalists believe tha thte Bible is divinely inspried and without error
Natural law
Moral principles and values that are considered to be inherent to all humans
Environment
The natural world; the surroundings in which someone lives
Interdependecne
Relying or depending on each other as a change to one thing affects other things as well
Sustainabliity
Only using naturals recources at a rate at which they can be replaced
Examples of what CAFOD does
Encourage people in England and Wales to live more simply set a natural resources are not used up so quickly
Support in setting a Projects and help all of its partners to ensure the project protect the environment

Stages of creation genesis 1
- God created light and dark: “Let there be light”

Creation of humans in Genesis 2:
God creates man: God shapes the soil into a man (Adam) and breathes life into man through his nostrels.
Man and the animals: God made animals for man and are named by man but are not suited to be their companion.
God creates woman: God puts Adam in a deep sleep and using his rib creates the first women (Eve).
Man and women: Man and women are put on Earth to populate it where they have two sons Cain and Able.

It tells us that God created all things and made everything good. It is our duty to care for the earth, as God created us it is our duty to do this.

understanding and use of Natural Law
Natural law is when humans find their fulfilment by becoming the people God wants them to be by living harmoniously with God other people and all creation. The basic natural law is “do good and avoid evil”
The Catholic Church in relation to Science

Members of the Catholic Church have always been involved in scientific development. During the second Vatican Council the magisterial stressed the need for science and religion to be mutually supportive

Preserving life, reproduction, education of offspring, live in a society, studying and praying to God

It means things that are accepted or true

Every bishop in the new world came together for six months to decide what is the catholic faith and finalised making the Bible and agreed the list of the cononcial books

The image of God in man is used as a metaphor to express the idea that only man, among God’s creatures, shares with him the ability to think. The human soul is defined as imago Dei
