What is dyspepsia?

”a complex of upper gastrointestinal tract symptoms which are typically present for four or more weeks, including upper abdominal pain or discomfort, heartburn, acid reflux, nausea and/or vomiting”

What are alarm bell signs?
A
Alarm signs:
Weight loss, blood in vomit, jaundice, age >55, persistent/treatment resistant, anaemia, abdominal mass, dysphagia

What is treatmenr depenent on and what are the basic treatment criteria
A
Definitive treatment depends on underlying cause
Lifestyle advice, medication review, further investigation, trial with PPI/H2RA, self care and OTC antacids
