What do the CABDs of CPR represent?
C-circulation
A-Airway
B-breathing
D-Defibrillation
What is biological death?
Death of body cells; 4-6 minutes after clinical death
What is Clinical death?
Heart stops and the victim stops breathing
What are 2 methods that can be used to open the airway?
Head tilt and Chin lift
What is an AED?
Automated External Defibrillator; After being positioned to the chest, it can recognize abnormal rhythms and shock the victim
Why must a rescuer “clear the victim” prior to pushing the shock button on an AED?
To make sure no one is in contact with the victim. Cardiac arrest could occur in other rescuers who are shocked by accident.
What should you determine before starting CPR?
Assessed for responsiveness (tap shoulders and call out) and breathing
While you check for consciousness, also check for
breathing (rising and falling of chest)
What pulse site is used during CPR?
Carotid
To perform one person CPR on an adult, what is the ratio of compressions to breaths?
30:2
What is the correct rate of respirations in adults?
At least 100 per minute.
What do you use to give compressions to an infant?
Two fingers, just below line of nipples
What is the rate of compressions for an infant?
At least 100 per minute
What is the ratio of compressions to breaths a lone rescuer should give to an infant?
30:2
How deep should compressions be on an adult?
2 inches or 5 centimeters
