Explain and describe the implications of current changes affecting your area of work
CDM Regulations 2015 - these came into force from 6 April 2015 though there are transitional provisions that apply to construction projects that started before the Regulations come into force.
BIM - introduction of Building Information Modelling brings forward new opportunities in terms of integrating design teams and more efficient data sharing
Brexit - economic and statutory uncertainty causes some projects to be postponed or even cancelled
Describe the broader developments which are having an impact on the work of the profession, or likely to have an impact in the foreseeable future
Brexit - there might be legislative changes diverging the law of the UK from that of the EU once the UK leaves the EU.
Statutory emphasis on sustainable development - increased interest in green development and garden spaces in connection with water (e.g. supply and flooding), air (e.g. pollution), and the health benefits of recreation.
Describe how you area maintaining your knowledge of products, materials and techniques which conserve resources and create sustainable landscapes
Membership in the Landscape Institute - reading the LI Magazine, visiting the website
Other professional websites and social media - regular visits and subscription to updates, incl. IFLA, ASLA, gardenvisit, dezeen, archdaily, world landscape architect
Attending lectures and professional events, eg. Regular CPD events organised by LI Yorkshire and Humber Branch
Describe the developments in your area of practice and in the wider profession which have an impact on your work or the context of your practice as a landscape professional
Technological advancement incl. green roof and green wall technologies open new markets
Statutory requirements for green space coverage and sustainability (eg. SUDS) forces developers to allocate more funds to landscape-driven solutions
Growing body of research shows economic benefits to green developments which attract more people and create more relaxing environments
Identify resources, activities and opportunities for development and updates relevant to your area of work, the wider profession and your future plans
Professional conferences and exhibitions, eg. ECLAS (European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools) 2017 conference to take place in September in London or the LI Annual Conference
