Covalent catalysis Flashcards
1
Q
Covalent catalysis two parts
A
- nucleophilic and electrophilic parts and the variations are based on the rate determining step
2
Q
Nucleophilic CC
A
need high nucleophilicity…rate increases with lewis basicity(related to nucleophilicity)…
nucleohilicity is a KINETIC parameter… lewis basicity is a THERMODYNAMIC parameter
3
Q
Polarizability
A
Polarizability is how easily the electrons can be distorted
4
Q
Nuc catalysis needs…
A
- high nucleophilicity
- polarizability (anything that involves resonance with more than 3 atoms)
- good leaving group
5
Q
nucleophilic CC steps
A
- nuclephilic rxm forming catalyst substrate bond
- electron withdrawal by the NOW electrophilic catalyst acting as an electron sink (where the electrons are reacting)
- catalyst product breaks (need good leaving group)
