What is Diabetic Ketoacidosis?

Who is at risk of getting Diabetic Ketoacidosis?
People who suffers from type I and type II Diabetes Mellitus
What is the CC of Diabetic Ketoacidosis?
Presistent Vomiting and a history of diabetes Mellitus
What are the associated Sx for diabetic ketoacidosis?
polyuria, polydipsia, SOB
What is the PE for diabetic Ketoacidosis?
Ketotic odor “Fruity”
Dry mucous membrane (dehydrated)
Tachypnea
What is the Dx for diabetic ketoacidosis?
Arterial blood Gas, venous blood gas
What is cellulitis?
infection of the skin
What is the CC for Cellulitis?
Red, swollen, painful area of the skin
What is the PE for cellulitis?
Edema, erythema, induration (hardening of the skin)
How is Cellulitis treated and dx?
Treated with abx and dx clinically
What is abscess?
Infection of the skin characterized by pus collected under the skin.
What is the CC of abscess
?
Fluctuance (pus-pocket)
induration
purulent drainage
How is abscess diagnosed
?
clinically
What is a rash?
changes in the skin caused by a reaction
What is the CC if rash?
- -Red
- -Itchy (pruritic: Purrr ..ri..tic)
- -Painful
What is the PE for at rash ?
- Urticaria (Hives or wheals)
- Purpura (dangerous rash)
- Macules (flat skin dis-coloration)
- Papules (raised bumps)
What is an allergic reaction?
Causes an immune response that causes inflammation
Who is at risk for an allergic reaction?
people with food an drug allergies
What are the C of an allergic reaction?
SOB
• Rash
• Itching
• Swelling
What is the PE of an allergic reaction?
- Edema
- Angioedema
- Urticaria (hives)
How is an allergic reaction DX?
Dx: Clinically
What is an adverse reaction?
side effects caused by a medication or procedure.
–Negative response
What is the CC for an adverse reaction?
- Constipation
- Dry mouth
- N/V/D
What is Extremity Injury ?
• Trauma that cause pain/swelling to extrem-ities.
What is the CC and assoc sx of extremity injury?
- Bruising
- Deformity
- Limited use
What the PE for extremity injury?
- Ecchymosis (Blood/bleeding under skin)
- Edema
- ROM limited
- Distal CSMT intact (Circulation, Sensory, Motor, Tendon)
What does CSMT stand for ?
(Circulation, Sensory, Motor, Tendon)
What is Musculoskeletal Back Pain ?
- Strain of back creating pain
* Worse with movement
CC of Musculoskeletal Back Pain ?
• Lumbar back pain
Assoc sx for musculoskeletal back pain?
• Shooting posterior low-er extremity pain
What is the PE for musculoskeletal back pain?
- Positive Straight Leg Raise (SLR)
* Sciatica (Radiating nerve pain)
What is Streptococcal Pharyngitis ?
• Bacterial infection of the Throat
what is the CC for streptococcal pharyngitis?
• Sore Throat
What is the PE for Streptococcal Pharyngitis?
- Pharyngeal Erythema
- Tonsillar Hypertrophy (Enlargement)
- Tonsillar Exudates (Pus)
