  1. Suicides
  2. Institutional deaths
  3. Any case where the Coroner isn’t satisfied that the cause or circumstances of the death are clearly established.

What are the three purposes of holding in inquest?

A
  1. The death itself
    - The fact that the person has died
    - Identity of the deceased
    - Cause of death
    - Time and place of death
    - Circumstances
  2. To make recommendations/comments that may prevent further deaths with similar circumstances
  3. Determine if public interest would be served by letting other investigative authorities investigate the death.
