Coordination and response - Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
Homeostasis
A
the maintenance of a constant internal environment
2
Q
Hypothalamus
A
part of the brain that regulates body temperature and sends nerve impulses to effectors to alter the temperature
3
Q
Vasodilation
A
when blood vessels open up in higher temperatures (more blood, more heat radiation)
4
Q
Vasoconstriction
A
when blood vessels close so that it does not flow near the skin and loose heat energy
5
Q
Cold (3)
A
- Vasoconstriction
- Shivers - muscle contraction requires energy and respiration gives off heat.
- erect- hairs erect to form an insulation coat that traps the heat in.
6
Q
Hot (3)
A
- Vasodilation
- sweat - water comes out to cool you down
- evaporation - sweat evaporates which requires heat so it will absorb heat from body.
