Contract Documents Flashcards
When completing simple cabinet detail drawings, which scale would be the best to use for these drawings?
1 1/2” = 1’0”
What is rift slicing?
Rift Slicing is commonly used to gain this type of appearance from oak. It produces a straight grain and eliminates the appearance of markings perpendicular to the grain caused by medullary rays.
Which is the most common method of veneer matching?
Book Matching
When reviewing a detail of a gypsum wallboard niche to receive a built-in millwork cabinet, the interior designer should be most concerned with:
Tolerance
A home run noted on the contract documents is:
A graphic indication showing which lights and outlets are connects to a particular circuit breaker in an electrical panel box
What is an incandescent light?
generate light when an electric current heats the tungsten filament inside
Incandescents have poor efficacy
They have a high CRI for rendering natural color and skin tones appropriate for residential uses.
What is a halogen light?
Bright but hot, cheaper upfront but costs more to operate, shorter lamp life, can be dimmed.
What is a flourescent Light?
Energy-efficient, minimal heat, typically brighter than LEDs, but has harsher whiter colored light. Not dimmable without special housing and switching. Suitable for commercial spaces where the light stays on.
Low voltage lighting
Low voltage fixtures require a larger-sized transformer to “step down” the voltage from 120 to 12 volts. However, they tend to be smaller in size and have more beam control.
Low voltage lighting can include incandescents like MR16s (usually halogen or incandescent) and LEDs.
What are LEDs?
Light-emitting diodes have a long life, low energy use, lower operating costs but are currently more expensive upfront. They have low heat output and a relatively cool bluish light. Some are dimmable, but this requires a special dimmer.
What is an HID Light?
High-Intensity Discharge Lamps, are most often used for outdoor lighting or large indoor spaces, like warehouses. They generate light by passing an electric current through a gas. That current then produces an arc of light within the arc tube
There are several types of HIDs, including High-Pressure Sodium (HPS), Mercury Vapor, Metal Halide, and Ceramic Metal Halide. These differ based on gas within the bulb.
requires a ballast and can take a long time to power up. They are appropriate for scenarios that don’t require the light to come on quickly, like a stadium.
What is Xenon lighting?
Incandescent fixtures with xenon gas have warmer light and give off more heat. They are dimmable but not energy efficient and have a lamp life similar to fluorescent, but not as long as LED.
Which of the following should not be a primary consideration when choosing a light source?
(A) efficacy
(B) aesthetics
(C) operating life cost
(D) color rendition
Aesthetics
What are considerations that influence the selection of a light source?
color rendition,
initial cost,
operating cost,
efficacy,
size,
operating life and
the ability to control output from a luminaire.
What are Lumens?
Quantity of light given off (actual bulb)
Lumens are the amount of light output produced by a lamp or light source; lamp manufacturers rate their lamps in lumens and publish catalogs with this information.
The units used for the measurement and description of the brightness of a direct glare source are
candela per square meter (Foot lamberts)
Which of the following items would NOT typically be the responsibility of an Interior Designer to show on a Reflected Ceiling Plan?
(A) Exit signs and sprinkler locations
(B) Full height wall partitions extending through plenum to the concrete slab above
(C) Switching and circuiting for lighting fixtures
(D) Height of dados and ceiling finishes
Switching and circuiting for lighting fixtures
Which of the following is not typically required by the AHJ to appear on the first sheet of the drawing set?
(A)Construction type and occupancy group or groups
(B)Street address or legal description of the property
(C)Names and addresses of all design professionals responsible for the work
(D)The number of occupants to be accommodated on every floor and in all rooms and spaces
(D)The number of occupants to be accommodated on every floor and in all rooms and spaces
A dead-end corridor may not exceed how many feet in a sprinklered building?
50ft
What are “As-Built” Plans?
As-built drawings show what was actually built, which often is different from the construction drawings. A set of as-built drawings is retained by the design firm and given to the client.
What is candela?
Brightness given off from source
What is luminance?
Brightness of light that is reflected or transmitted off the surface in a specific direction (perception)
What is illumance?
Measure of quanity of light hitting a surface in lux
What is lux?
How bright your surface will be at a specific distance
How would a set of construction docs produced by an interior designer be organized?
title and index, floor plans, reflected ceiling plan, elevations, details, mechanical, eletrical, fire protection drawings
What occupancy group is most restrictive?
A-Assembly because it contains large amounts of people
What would a separate finish plan be used to communicate?
complex finishes and configurations
when there are several finish types on each wall
The full extent of slab-to slab partitions on a project is best shown on what type of plan
reflected ceiling plan
What would be used to demonstrate a detail?
section, isometric view
large scale plan view
What is an open dimension
Open dimension is a part of a dimension string that is not given.
Only assigned to spaces not critical to the design
What is building commissioning
the process of inspecting, testing, and adjusting building systems and then verifying and documenting that they are operating as intended
What is not typically part of close-out phase?
a post-occupancy evaluation
Who pays for any field tests or inspection beyond the contrct documents?
owner and general contractor
Who typically attends the bid openings?
the designer and owner
When are MEP details developed and coordinated with the interior designer?
during the construction drawings
What are live loads?
Live loads include people, furniture, snow, and other moving equipment
What is an addenda?
changes made during the bidding phase and prior tp awarding the contract
How are changes made during construction?
-Minor changes in work
-Formal change order
-Construction change directive
What is a bulletin
Written document issued AFTER execution of contract that modifies
issued when changes occur that affect the project drawings and specifications after the detail design is complete and a contract is awarded for the project
What is the correct order of construction drawings?
Civil, architectural, structural, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical
What would be the best scale to use if you were drawing a ver complex elevation?
1/2” = 1’0”
What is occupancy type?

What is occupancy classification?
Based on function or purpose
What is occupancy group?
