How many CEUs do you need biennially

6 in ethics at a personally attended workshop
Conversion of clock hours to CEUs
One clock hour = one CEU
Except in Area III (general conference attendance), where one day equals one CEU
CEUs for psychologists licensed during the first year of the biennium
(Between January 1 and Dec 31 if the odd year)
20 CEUs and 3 must be ethics
Successful completion of ABPP
Satisfies all requirements of the biennium during which the exam has been passed
Obtaining ethics CEUs
Areas I (academics) or IV (APA or Board sanctioned events)
Serving as a peer reviewer for board violations, or subcommittee for oral exams is 3 ethics CEUs (3 per oral day)
Serving on Board ethics committee gets you all 6 for the biennium if you do the full two-year appointment
Area I for CEUs
Academic courses at university
- courses you’ve taken
- courses you’re teaching for the first time
- 5 CEUs for every first or second author publication
MAX: 20
Area II for CEUs
Ongoing peer group consultation
- research groups, journal clubs, regularly scheduled case consultations
MIN 10 hours, MAX 20 hours
Area III for CEUs
Attending conference activities that aren’t converted by Area I
- meetings, lunches, gatherings
1 day = 1 CEU
MAX 5 CEUs
Area IV for CEUs
Approved sponsored continuing education credits
- any activity provided by certain organizations (like APA,state psych association, etc.)
1 hour = 1 CEU
MAX 40
Area V for CEUs
Self-Instructional activity
- tapes, books, audio recordings
MAX 16, max 6 of which can be from online offerings
How long to maintain CEU records for
4 years
If your CEUs are audited and you cannot verify the credits…
Your license is revoked
If you don’t respond to the audit
If your CEUs are audited and the Board rejects some of your CEUs…
You have until January 31 of the odd year to earn more or your license is revoked
