How are leaders elected in the Conservative party?
. Leaders can only be elected by those that have taken part in the party whip
. They will then be able to participate in a number of secret ballots held among Conservative MPs
How is the party funded?
. They receive a large part of their income from public donations
. The Conservatives are said to be financed by many wealthy businessmen
What is the Conservative party’s ideology?
. The Conservatives have held 2 extended periods of government
. To produce a dynamic economy which creates wealth and opportunity
. To improve the quality of life for everyone in the U.K.
How do the Conservatives select candidates?
. In 2001 the Conservatives replaced their approved list with a parliamentary assessment board.
. Through this potential candidates have an informal meeting and an assessment with a party representative.
How does the Conservative party make policy’s?
. Up. Until the late 90’s policy making has been made by the party leader.
. After the 90’s the leader still dominates much of the policy making but can now be influenced by the opinions of other MPs
Where are the Conservatives located on the political spectrum?
. Historically the Conservatives have been placed on the right of the spectrum ( not far right )
. Currently the party is more centre right
