Conservation Of Energy Flashcards
What is a closed system?
A group of objects that transfer energy to each other.
What is friction?
The force that opposes motion between two surfaces that are touching.
What is an example of a closed system?
The track of a dollar coaster, the cars, and the air around it.
What does The Law of Conservation of Energy say?
Energy can’t be created or destroyed but can be changed from one form to another.
What is the total amount of energy in a closed system?
Always the same.
When is energy converted to thermal energy?
Any time energy is converted into another form some of the original energy gets converted.
What must happen for a roller coaster to move?
Energy must be used to overcome friction.
Where is friction on a roller coaster?
Between the cars wheels and the track and between the cars and the air around them.
