When can confidentiality be broken?
A
- When it is required by law.
- If the patient has given consent.
- Public interest - research, education, serious crime or disease.

A
Patient’s ability to make a decision

A
- Does the patient understand?
- Can the patient retain the information?
- Can they use the information to weigh up options and make a decision?
- Can they communicate their decision?

What is confidentiality?
A
Set of rules/promise that limits access on certain types of information

What is Gillick/Fraser competence?
A
If a child under 16 is assessed as Gillick/Fraser competent they can make their own decisions about their care without parental permission.

What does the GMC say are the 5 main ‘duties of a doctor’?
A
- Protect and promote health.
- Provide a good standard of care.
- Recognise and work within the limits of your competence.
- Work with colleagues in a way to best serve your patients.
- Treat patients as individuals and respect their dignity.
