Connective tissue questions Flashcards
Vitally stained with trepan blue
Macrophages
The most common CT cell
fibroblast
Derived from B lymphocytes
Plasma cells
Have heparin-containing granules
Mast cells
Can serve as stem cells in adult tissue
Mesenchymal cells
Often found around venules
Mast cells
Secrete immunoglobulins
Plasma cells
Selectively stained by silver
reticular fibers
Allow stretch and recoil of blood vessels
Elastic fibers
Composed of type III collagen
reticular fibers
Composed of type I collagen
Collagen fibers
The most abundant fiber type in lymphoid tissues
reticular fibers
contain the amino acids desmosine and isodesmosine
Elastic fibers
Form the largest diameter fibers in loose CT
collagen fibers
What are the three basic components of all types of connective tissue?
Fibers( with exception of blood)
Ground substance
Cells
Compare multilocular and unilocular fat with respect to occurrence, function, and structure
Unilocular- yellow/white adipose tissue
-cells with single large droplet of fat
more abundant than multi
Multilocular- brown adipose tissue
- cells with many lipid droplets
- abundant mito and capillary (brown)
- Primarily in fetus
Both- develop from undifferentiated mesenchymal cells via lipoblasts
Connective tissues of the head, unlike most areas of the body, are derived from what embryonic cell type?
Cranial neural crest cells
Compare dense regular and dense irregular connective tissue in terms of abundance, location, cellularity, vascularity, and regenerative abilities
Dense regular- rope like arrangement of fiber bundles
-found in tendons/ligaments/cornea
Dense irregular- fabric like arrangement
-form most organ capsules/periosteum/ dermis of the skin
Both
-mature fibroblast– fibrocytes predominant cell type
List the 3 main fiber types found in connective tissue and compare them in respect to size, staining with H &E, staining with silver, locations and functions
Collagen fibers- Large
- Made of type I collagen
- 3 groups- fibril forming/linking-achoring/sheet forming
Elastic fibers- medium
- protein elastin
- picro-orcin and resorcin fuchsin stains
- arterial walls/lung tissue/vocal ligaments/spinal cord ligaments
Reticular fibers- small
- collagen type III
- stains black with silver salt
- Fibroblasts/reticular cells/schwann cells/smooth muscle cells
