Connective Tissue Flashcards
Embryologically what is connective tissue derived from ?
Mesenchyme
What is the function of Connective tissue?
connects and holds tissues and organs to one another, forms a framework, provides support, stores fat, transports things, protects, and aids in tissue repair.
What does connective tissue consist of?
cells and extracellular fibers in a ground substance and tissue fluid
describe connective tissue
-within the CT the cells and fibers are scattered within the ground substance
What is ground substance?
Ground substance is amorphous material composed of proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans
What are the cell types found in CT ?
Fibroblasts , histocytes , plasma cells and mast cells
Fibroblast
- derived from mesenchyme
- produce collagen
- produces ground substance in CT
Histocyte
- CT macrophage
- protection of the body against infection and other harmful things
Plasma cell
Derived from B lymphocytes
Mast cell
- large cell
- basophilic granules containing histamine and heparin which mediate allergic reactions
Fibers of CT
Collagen fibers, elastic fibers, reticular fibers
What type of fiber is most abundant in CT?
Collagen fibers
Connective tissue proper
-consist of loose irregular connective tissue and dense connective tissue
Dense CT
-Subdivided into dense regular CT and dense irregular CT
Loose CT
Areolar tissue
