Connective Tissue Flashcards
What is Loose Connective Tissue?
Loose irregular network of elastin fibres and collagen fibres suspended with a relatively large amount of ground substance.
This tissue supports and cushions cells structures that may change size or shape.
What is Dense Connective Tissue?
Lots of collagen bundles and fibroblasts embedded in ground substance.
What is Reticular Connective Tissue?
Lots of Reticular Fibres (type III collagen)
What is elastic connective tissue?
Lots of elastic fibres
How can you distinguish between collagen and elastic fibres?
Collagen fibres are thicker than elastic fibres
What is ground substance?
A viscous, gel like substance with high water content
Why can’t you see reticular fibres on some images?
They do not stain well with H&E
What type of connective tissue is mucosa?
Loose connective tissue
