What is the Cardiovascular System made up of?
Heart and blood vessels
What is the systemic and pulmonary circulation systems?
Pulmonary circulation- Bloods vessels that pump blood to the lungs and back again from the heart to become oxygenated
Systemic circulation- Bloods vessels that transport blood to the rest of the body tissues and back
What is an arteriovenous anastomosis?
This is a direct connection between an artery and a vein without a capillary bed.
What is the name of a direct connection between two arteries or two veins without a capillary bed?
Arterioarterial anastomosis- between 2 arteries
Venovenous anastomosis- between 2 veins
What is Collateral circulation?
When the main blood vessel becomes blocked so arterioarterial and venovenous anastamoses form which provide possible detour routes to ensure tissues still receive ample blood supply.
What is a portal venous system?
This is when the blood flows directly between 2 capillary beds before reaching the heart.
What is the location of the heart?
Between the 2nd and 6th ribs and between T5 and T8
