conflict within groups - term 2 Flashcards
what is primary research
Original research collected firsthand from people or groups
what is secondary research
using reports and statistics found through research
define the steps of conducting a case study
1) define the research question - identify the research hypothesis and determine a purpose
2) choose cases to be studied - who how and the methods that are to be used
3) collect data - undertake proposed research methods ascertain data and sort
4) Evaluate and analyse – examine raw data, look for trends and patterns, and compare the data to the original hypothesis and purpose
5) Present results – describe findings using an appropriate method, provide evidence and justify conclusions
advantages of a case study
- detailed information collected
- A sample group can be surveyed when a large group is not available
- general predictions possible
- hypothesis can be developed and tested
- behavior is described as it occurs
- researcher controls the situation
disadvantages of a case study
- data collected may not be valid for the wider population
- bias can occur if only one individual is collecting data
- can be time-consuming and difficult to analyze
- vital information may be missed
- behavior exhibited may be different to what would occur naturally
