What is self confidence?
A person’s belief in their ability to achieve success
What is self efficacy?
Level of self confidence in a specific situation
Factors affecting self efficacy- Banduras model
According to Bandura, a performer’s self efficacy is based on 4 primary sources of information:
- performance accomplishments
- vicarious experience
- Verbal persuasion
- Emotional arousal
Explain performance accomplishments
=Previous success at the task
What you ave achieved in training and competition forms the basis of future expectations as to your success or failure
Repeated success leads to positive expectations of future success
Explain vicarious experience
Watching others of a similar standard successfully perform a skill
‘If she can do it then so can I’
Explain verbal persuasion
=Encouragement from significant others
Reasoning and encouraging a performer to build their confidence
Explain emotional arousal
Perceiving physiological arousal as indicating emotion
interpreting increases in heart and breathing rate as being positive than negative responses will increase performance
What is evaluation apprehension?
A sense of anxiety caused by a performer thinking that their performance is being watched and judged
