Conference 22: Pelvic walls, female and male genetailia Flashcards
What are the three planes of the pelvis?
- pelvic inlet
- midpelvis
- pelvic outlet
What does the pelvic inlet run to and from?
top of pubic symphysis –> sacral promontory
What does the midpelvis run to and from?
lower pubic symphysis –> through ischial spine –> lower sacrum
What does the pelvic outlet run to and from?
lower pubic symphysis –> to ischial tuberosity –> coccyx
What is the smallest diameter in the pelvic inlet? anteroposterior or transverse
anterioposterior
What is the smallest diameter in the mid pelvis? anteroposterior or transverse
transverse (INTERSPINOUS)
this is also the smallest diameter in the whole pelvis
What is the smallest diameter in the pelvic outlet? anteroposterior or transverse
transverse (INTERTUBEROUS)
What is the slope of the pelvic diaphragm
it slopes downward (inferiorly) from posterior to anterior and laterally to medially
If there was contrast in the uterus, the contrast would go through the fallopian tubes and out into the ____ & ____
rectouterine pouch & perirectal gutters
What structures are anterior to the VAGINA?
- cervix
- bladder
- urethra
What structures are posterior to the VAGINA?
- rectouterine pouch
- rectum
- anal canal
What structures are anterior to the UTERUS?
- vesicouterine pouch
2. bladder
What structures are posterior to the UTERUS?
- rectouterine pouch
- Vagina
- rectum
What part of the broad ligament goes through the deep ring?
round ligament of the uterus
what part of the broad ligament does the ureter cross under the uterine vessels?
cardinal ligament
What part of the broad ligament connects the cervix to the lateral part of the sacrum?
Uterosacral ligament
What bone is anterior to the prostate?
pubis (pubic symphysis)
What structures are superior to the prostate?
bladder, ductus deferens, and seminal vesicles
What structures are posterior to the prostate?
rectum
What structure are inferior to the prostate?
sphincter urethrae and perineal membrane
Where is the levator ani in relation to the prostate?
inferior laterally
What are the 2 important clinical subdivisions of the prostate?
- central - more fibrous
2. peripheral- more glandular
Which subdivision of the prostate is involved in BPH?
central
Which subdivision of the prostate is involved in prostate cancer?
peripheral
sympathetic, preganglionic fibers that innervate the hindgut and the pelvic viscera
lumbar splanchnic
What do many lumbar splanchnic nerves pass through but not synapse in??
superior hypogastric plexus
What is the parasympathetic innervation to the pelvic viscera?
pelvic splanchnic nerves
what type of fibers are pelvic splanchnic nerves?
parasympathethic, preganglionic
where do pelvic splanchnic nerves synapse?
on/near their target organ
where do pelvic splanchnic nerves originate?
S2, S3, S4 ventral rami
gray communicating do what
bring back POSTGANGLIONIC, sympathetic fibers back to their spinal nerve segments
