Conference 17: Stomach Duodenum Flashcards
Most posterior part of stomach
Fundus
Most anterior part of stomach
Pyloris
On XR: if supine the air bubble is located where in the stomach?
air bubble goes to highest place, when supine that is the most anterior structure –> air bubble in pyloric antrum
On XR: if standing/sitting the air bubble is located where in the stomach?
highest place when sitting is the fundus
What structure are the yellow arrows pointing to?

Rugae
What is the peritonealization of the 1st part of the duodenum
completely peritonealized
What is the peritonealization of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th parts of duodenum?
retroperitoneal
Differences between the jejunum & ileum?
Jejunum- located in LUQ, wider diameter, more and longer circular folds, and more vascularized.
Ileum- located in RLQ, smaller diameter, less and shorter circular folds almost smooth, and less vascularized
- What is the top arrow pointing to?
- Bottom arrow?

- body of the stomach –> more anterior structure
- fundus of the stomach –> more posterior structure
What structures are anterior to the stomach?
Liver and left leaf of Diaphragm

what structures are posterior to the stomach?
left crus of of diaphragm and spleen

What should you go look at after you finish this card deck
CROSS SECTIONS :) :(
Identify parts of pancreas 1,2,3?

- Neck
- Body
- Tail (most posterior part)
What 3 structures are posterior to the 1st part of the duodenum?
- Common bile duct
- Portal Vein
- Gastroduodenal artery

Structures related to 2nd part of duodenum?
the 2nd part of duodenum is anterior to the right kidney
and lateral to the head of the pancreas

What vessels are posterior to the pancreas?
- PORTAL VEIN (posterior to neck of pancreas specifically)
- superior mesenteric artery
- splenic vein
Vessels located posterior to 3rd part of duodenum?
- aorta
- inferior vena cava
What vessels are involved in the “nutcracker” effect of the 3rd part of duodenum
aorta runs posterior to 3rd part of duodenum and the superior mesenteric artery runs anteiror to 3rd part of duodenum and if they are enlarged then they crush the 3rd part of duodenum –> bowl obstruction yikes
If an ulcer of the 1st part of the duodenum erodes the posterior wall what structures are affected?
- portal vein
- common bile duct
- gastroduodenal artery
Enlargement of the pancreas obstructs what vein and thus creates splenic enlargement?
splenic vein!!!!
