Concept 3 Unit 6 Flashcards
Temperature
Measure of the average kinetic energy of particles
Plasma
Matter composed of positively and negatively charged particles with EXTREMELY high kinetic energy
Bose-Einstein condensates
Atoms are super cooled to such low temperature that they form a super atom
Heat of fusion
The amount of energy needed to turn a solid into a liquid at its melting point
Heat of vaporization
The amount of energy needed to turn a liquid into a gas at its boiling point
Vaporization
The phase transition from liquid to gas
Evaporation
Caused by pressure change occurs only at the surface of a liquid
Boiling
Caused by a temperature change occurs throughout the liquid
3 matter keys
1- All matter is made of small particles
2- The particles are constantly moving
3- The motion of the particles cause them to collide
Solid- it’s volumes shape and particule movement
Solid is a fixed volume
Fixed shape
And the particles are ridgid/held tightly together barely moving(vibrating)
Liquid-volume shape and particle movement
Liquid is a fixed volume
Not a fixed shape
Particles have more kinetic energy then solids(slide past eachother)
Gas- volume shape movement
Gas does not have a-fixed volume
Has no shape
And particles have high kinetic energy ( bouncing)
State change is chemical or physical and why
Physical because it doesn’t change its identity
