27
Q

What does the term Colour depth mean?

A

The number of bits needed to represent on colour in the image.

28
Q

What does the term Resolution mean?

A

The quality of the image
-how many pixels per inch

29
Q

What does the term Image Size mean?

A

The height and width of the image in pixels

30
Q

What does the term DPI (Dots Per Inch) mean?

A

The number of pixels in one inch of the image

31
Q

How is an image stored inside a computer?

A

As a bitmap
-each pixel in the image is assigned a Binary Value and then stored as a binary string.

32
Q

What is LAN?

A

When computers or devices are connected together over a small geographic area.

33
Q

What is WAN?

A

When computers or devices are connected over a large geographic area

34
Q

What is a firewall?

A

A piece of software that stops unwanted connections into your network.

35
Q

What is the CPU?

A

The ‘brain’ of the computer. Stands for Centural Processing Unit. All of the programs/apps/data is PROCESSED here. It gets instructions and the carries them out.

36
Q

What is the RAM?

A

The SHORT-TERM memory in the computer. When the computer is switched off, everything stored in the RAM is LOST. RAM is where data of our currently-running programs is stored.

37
Q

What is the GPU?

A

Stands for Graphics Processing Unit. Helps the computer to process and render all of the graphics that you can see on your screen. Essential to be able to run high quality video games.

38
Q

What is the Hard Drive?

A

A type of LONG-TERM storage. When the computer is switched off, all the data is KEPT SAFE. This is where we keep our saved documents and programs are installed to here. The inside of a hard drive is a bit like a record player. There are spinning disks where the data is stored. And a magnetic arm that moves across the disks to read the information.

39
Q

What is the SSD?

A

A Solid State Drive is also a LONG-TERM storage device. It does not have any moving parts inside. Instead the data is stored as electrical signals on a special computer chip. USB sticks work in a similar way.

40
Q

Bits -Bytes is?

A

Divide by 8

41
Q

Bytes- Bits is?

A

Times by 8

42
Q

What is known as the METADATA?

A

The size of the grid of the bitmap.

43
Q

What is the Motherboard?

A

The component which everything is plugged into. Allows all components to communicate with each other. HAs open slots for expansion cards to fit into:
-GPU
-Network Card

44
Q

What is sound file size?

A

(Number of samples per second)X(Number of bits per sample)X(Length of sample in seconds)

45
Q

What is duration?

A

Length of sample in seconds

46
Q

What is an algorithm?

A

A set of instructions for solving a problem or completing a task

47
Q

What does pseudocode mean?

A

Text statements written for each step of the algorithm

48
Q

What is a flowchart?

A

This uses a set of standard shapes and arrows to make a diagram of the algorithm

49
Q

What is image height?

A

Hight measured in pixles

50
Q

What is image width?

A

Width measured in pixles

51
Q

What is pattern reconition?

A

We look for anything that is similar or shares the same characteristics.

52
Q

What is abstraction?

A

You look at all of the information and then decide what is important to help solve your problem

53
Q

What is malware?

A

a program that means to cause harm to your computer

54
Q

What is encryption?

A

A method of changing the original characters in a message so that they are hidden/disguised.

55
Q

What does a rectangle represent in a flowchart?

A

Process- used for instructions and commands

56
Q

What does a diamond represent in a flowchart?

A

Decision- always has a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ outcome

57
Q

What does a parallelogram represent in a flowchart?

A

Input/Output- represents information entering or leaving the program

58
Q

What does an arrow represent in a flowchart?

A

Shows the flow of the algorithm

59
Q

What is a bitmap?

A

An image made up of different-coloured squares. Each square has a binary value.

60
Q

What is a vector?

A

An image that stores the mathematics required to draw a shape

61
Q

What is the sample rate?

A

How often the amplitude of a sound wave is recorded. The more often a sample is recorded, the smoother the playback will sound. Number of samples per second.

62
Q

What is the bit depth?

A

How many different gradations of amplitude can be represented in a digital waveform. Number of bits needed to store each sample.
